Framework

Introduction to the Framework and provotypes text here
You will be able to select from the following pathways within the framework:

1. Service Co-design your own journey

2. Service Co-design a journey for a group you belong to

3. Service Co-design a journey for a group

The framework will be in two parts:

Part 1: Your Service Co-Design Workbook - This provotype (2025 - 2026)

Part 2: Your Parenting Workbook - Provotyping in 2026
Content (consolidated from the evidence base: (1) Designing your journey own (2) Foundations of Child Development (3) Nurturing and Attachment (4) Positive discipline and behaviour management (5) Communication and Relationship skills (6) Maternal self care and well-being (7) Trauma informed and culturally responsive practice

Theory of Change and Logic Model -

The 'why?' and 'how' of this framework and design

Framework Principles: Introducing the TEA-GAP

The gap that I found in my evidence search was that service co-design of parenting education for mothers in this group would need an approach as follows:

Trauma informed (T)
Empowering (E)
Attachment based (A)
-
Gender responsive (G)
Acceptable (A)
Peer support (P)

Co-design Canvas
Part 1: Chapter 1 Introducing how this part of the workbook works

All of the provotypes will be left intentionally with gaps that can be filled to personalise it for you....
Part 1: Chapter 2 - Journey Map and Service Blueprint

The Learning Journey (including family learning)

This will be designed inline with the design and technology curriculum

Part 1: Chapter 3 - Personas and Empathy Map

3.1 Personas

A persona is a made up person that might represent someone who might use a service.

They are based on research and help everyone to understand the needs, goals, and opportunities there might be if they access the service.

We use them to be able to focus on this person's point of view (sometimes known as a customer, service user, beneficiary, participant, or client). They also help us work through barriers and enablers for that person.

3.2 Empathy Maps

Part 1: Chapter 4 - Scenarios and User Stories

4.2 User Stories
Some example user stories:

"As a mum who is currently separated from their child, I should be able to understand what I need to do to rebuild trust, so that I can move toward having contact and eventually reunite"

"As a mum co-designing my own parenting education, I should feel that the sessions are suitable for my needs, and explained clearly without jargon that I cannot understand, so that I don't feel overwhelmed or judged"

"As a mum co-designing a group for others, I must have resources that are hands on, practical and suitable, so that I can understand the information and use it in real life"

"As a mum who has experienced trauma, I must make sure that any group work feels safe and respectful, so that I feel comfortable sharing and learning without shame or fear"

"As a mum with a toddler, I should have ideas for how to manage tantrums and difficult behaviour, so that I can stay calm and feel more in control during challenging times"

"As a child who doesn't live with my mum right now, I must feel safe and know that mum and I can learn together how to care for one another, so that I can feel hopeful about seeing each other regularly and trust that things will be okay"

"As a child who has experienced change and confusion, I should have adults around me to understand how I feel and speak kindly to me, so that I don't feel scared or blamed"

"As a child who misses my mum, I must be able to know that she still thinks about me, and is working out how to be my mum, so that I can feel loved even in the times we are apart"

"As a child in a new or uncertain situation, I must have routines and care with my mum in the future that help me feel settled and safe, so that I can play, learn and sleep without worry"

"As a child who hears other adults talking about me and my mum, I must have people being positive with me and that include me actively in my parenting and care, so that I don't feel left out, different or invisible"

Part 1: Chapter 5 - Storyboards and Story Mapping

Part 1: Chapter 6 - Cognitive Mapping

In the context of designing parenting education services cognitive mapping will help with representing how parents might think about co-designing their own learning and support.

It can also help uncover emotional drivers such as "I must get being a mum right". This will help the pathway to address this with the right tone, content and resources. It can also help align sources of support.

Part 1: Chapter 7 - Empowerment Design

Part 1: Chapter 8 - Systems and Giga Mapping

Text and provotype image here..
Systems Map

A systems map is a visual tool that shows all the key people, places, and relationships involved in delivering a service.

This helps us to see the 'bigger picture' and to spot where things are stuck or duplicated. In service design, creating a systems map makes it easier to identify high impact opportunities for improvement, align different groups around a common understanding, and ensure that any changes fit smoothly into a wider ecosystem. It turns complex messy realities into clear actionable insight.

Giga Map

A giga map is an expansive, multi-layered diagram that brings together diverse data, ideas and views about a complex system. It weaves together all the other maps that have been gathered, as well as policy contexts, trends and even emotional landscapes.

In service design, a giga map can help us navigate complexity by making patterns visible at a glance, providing new insights. It can help provide a shared reference point that fosters collaboration - helping everyone to see how the pieces fit into the big picture.

(2027 - 2028) Games Code, Wireframes and Equations

A Sandbox game where players can explore a generated world to explore and design their own parenting education and world that supports it.
It will provide a creative mode with unlimited resources and the ability to 'I try' things out in a safe way.
It will encourage players to set their own goals and objectives within the structure of the framework, the TEA-GAP and Evidence Based Parenting Programme Principles.

It will be suited to:

-
Open ended play
-
Creative freedom
-
Intrinsic motivation (based on self-determination theory)

This kind of game is well suited to:

-
Educational environments
-
Service and Co-Design (as it enables stakeholders to simulate, experiment or prototype

The game will also be complimented with printable resources suitable for secure environments.
